Romantic Fiction or Romance, encompasses 55% of all books sold (approx). Love in literature, be it poetry, stories, legends, even ancient verses has always been a popular subject. Althought those that consider themselves Literary snobs may bemoan it, I bet many have aread and enjoyed some element of the written romantic word.
Romance guidelines suggest the plot of the story must centre around a love story of two people and must have a happy positive ending, with the couple ending up together and the reader assuming they live “Happy Ever After.”
Combine the Paranormal or the fantasy with the Romantic and you get a great three dimensional story. The Hero may be a Vampire, the heroine a Witch, they meet in odd circumstances, yet at the end of the novel, they have overcome all barriers to being together, are in love, and destined to be together.

The term Paranormal is based on the Latin prefix Para (outside or beyond) what to us, is scientifically known. The Paranormal phenomenon encompasses anything that falls outside the expected, the known or possible or sometimes what we just don’t yet know.
In Literature this can be a genre all of its own or a sub-genre. Paranormal Romance is one sub-genre and is considered to be one of the fastest growing in the fiction world.
Common themes in a paranormal novel are the use of Vampires, Werewolves, Ghosts, Fairies, Elves, Witches, and Shapeshifters as characters. Other concepts are encompassed beyond the characters physical appearance and my include: clairvoyance, telepathy, telekinisis, psychic abilitites, time travel, teleporting, etc. Each story may contain just one element or many or even get mixed with a mystery.

Fantasy novels including Fantasy Romances, encapsulate mythical worlds and creatures. Often magic is a strong element and can include exotic creatures": dragons, unicorns, and other made up beings as found in Lord of the Rings. In many ways this genre can cross over into the Paranormal and vice versa.
